Last night I watched Villanova defeat Clemson in the first round of the NCAA tournament after coming back from 18 points down. Villanova has had a lot of success these last few years under head coach Jay Wright (pictured), who, despite his stupid technical foul late in the game, has done a very good job building Nova’s program up to a consistently successful level (four consecutive NCAA tournament appearances).

Meanwhile, my school, Rutgers, continues its run of basketball sub-mediocrity (despite an upset win over Nova midway through the season). RU has not made the NCAA tournament since 1991. It got me to thinking – imagine if Rutgers had once had the opportunity to hire someone of Wright’s caliber. Indeed, if only someone like Wright had ever been available – perhaps Rutgers basketball would finally find success again. Surely, Rutgers would have taken action quickly in such a situation and not let a candidate like that slip away.

…Oh well. Eventually, they’ll find the right guy. Right? Right? Right? Possibly, given more time? …Maybe?
